Tel-U Team Achieved 3rd Position at National University Debate Championship

BANDUNG, TEL-U - Telkom University (Tel-U) students achieved another achievements in the debate competition. Team Tel-U consisting of Ryan Aminullah (Telecommunication Engineering 2013), Ranna Artha Jayanti (MBTI International 2012) and Ida Salina Ginting (Textile and Fashion Craft 2013), won 3rd place National University Debate Championship (NUDC) West Java level.

In addition being the third winner, one member of this team, Ryan, also successfully won the title as Best Speaker in this competition.

"Before heading to the first National held provincial level selection. For West Java, this year held at Widyatama University on 18-20 May. In the team, my colleague Ranna and I served as a debater, while Ida served as an Adjudicator, "said Rian, last weekend.

Ryan added, there are three preliminaries round should they pass. Then, a quarter-final until the grand finale. At that time, Tel-U team managed to get a constant value at every stage. After struggling through the challenges of the race, the team can qualify for the quarter-finals until the grand finale against contestants from other universities such as UPI, ITB and Padjadjaran University. "Finally UNPAD team gained the first prize, ITB on the second position and Tel-U obtained the third.

"There is no specific theme of the whole race. But in each round debate different themes, like war and international relations at the stage grand finale, whereas the Rohingya refugees themes raised in the third preliminary round, "said Ryan.

For Ryan, while following this debate, the important thing is being able to think fast and critically. Accuracy in building a proper argument is also very important in dropping the weakness of their opponents' arguments. Each argument submitted must be elaborated to be strong and tough opponent dropped.

They are now preparing to compete for the national finals to be held in Pontianak, West Kalimantan on 19-24 August. National University Debate Championship (NUDC) is an event organized by the Directorate of Higher Education (Higher Education). (purel / risca)
