Develop Cyber Security Research, Tel-U Cooperate with Oxford

JAKARTA, TEL-U – Telkom University Rector, Prof. Ir Ashari Mochamad MEng, PhD, expressed his appreciation for the cooperation. According to him, an honor for Tel-U to cooperate with University of Oxford and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Indonesia, especially in terms of cyber research.

“With rapidly change of information technology, the ten years is predicted there will be 50 billion devices connected through Internet. Therefore cyber security becomes the main idea – security and government regulations to be point of interest, “he said in Cybersecurity Capacity Seminar and Workshop, in Jakarta, Monday (28/3).

In line with Rector, General Director of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Informatics Applications, Ir Bambang Heru Tjahjono, MSc confirms this cooperation is part of the government’s roadmap on cyber in Indonesia.

“When the people we’ve become familiar to online transactions, then the personal data such as names and addresses are already open in cyberspace. As a result, the risks covered by the community will be even greater. Then government must be prepared to ensure the security of its citizens, including the security in cyberspace, “he said.

On this event present as a keynote speaker, an expert on Information Security and Privacy, Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford, Prof. Ian Brown. He urged the Indonesian authorities to consider a number of factors related to the implementation of cyber security.

Seminar and Workshop on Cybersecurity Capacity is one part of a collaboration between University of Oxford, the Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia and Telkom University (Tel-U). As part of this cooperation, it also held Focus Group Discussion (FGD) previously. Hopefully, the results of this collaboration will produce a White Paper on Cyber Security in Indonesia.
