Telkom University Choir Achieved Some Medals in Taiwan
TAIPEI – Telkom University Choir successfully won the “Taipei International Choral Competition (TICC) 2019” in Taipei, Taiwan organized by the Taipei Philharmonic Foundation on July 31 – August 2, 2019.
Being one of the representatives from Indonesia, Telkom University Choir competed with 23 other choirs from 6 other countries namely Taiwan, South Korea, China, Macau, Poland, and the Philippines. The team consists of 43 singers with conductor Aldo Randy Ginting.
In the Youth Choir category held on July 31, 2019, at Soochow University Song-Yi Hall, Telkom University Choir brought Lonely as Night by Tien-Hao Jan, Exultate Deo by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, and Atsalums by Jēkabs Jančevskis.
The team also performed 3 regional song compositions from Indonesia and Taiwan in the Ethnic / Traditional Music category held on August 1, 2019, namely Elders Drinking Song (Taiwan) by Chiung-Ying Chang, Yamko Rambe Yamko (Papua) arranger Agustinus Bambang Jusana, and Janger (Bali) arranged by Avip Priatna and Agustinus Bambang Jusana. Besides, Telkom University Choir also presented contemporary music in the category of Contemporary Music, namely Fajar and Senja by Ken Steven, Entreat Me Not to Leave You by Dan Forrest, and Ave Maria by Ming-Chieh Lin.
Telkom University Choir won first place in each category followed, namely Youth Choir, Contemporary Music and won the highest score in all competitions in the Ethnic / Traditional Music category (with a score of 90.88). The victory succeeded in bringing Telkom University Choir to the Grand Prix round which was attended by 7 choirs from all over the world, namely Cathedral Girls’ Choir “Puellae Orantes” (Poland), Mingho Junior High School – Juann Choir (Taiwan), Harmonia Male Choir (Taiwan) , Rhapsody Choir (Taiwan), Tongyeon Municipal Boys and Girls Choir (Korea), Choir of Maritime University of Szczecin (Poland) and Telkom University Choir which are the only team from Indonesia.
The Grand Prix performance was held at the National Concert Hall – Taiwan on August 2, 2019. Of the 7 choirs, the 2nd Runner Up was won by the Choir of Maritime University of Szczecin (Poland), while the 1st Runner Up was obtained by Mingho Junior High School (Taiwan) and the overall champion in the 2019 Taipei International Choral Competition (TICC) fell to Telkom University Choir.
“Finally we were able to achieve our first Grand Champion title. Thank you, of course, to all those who help this program, both sponsors, media partners, and donors. This victory is a 6th birthday present for Telkom University Choir. Once again, this is for Indonesia, “said Avenuto Detantra as the person in charge of the Foreign Festival program, Shankara Reswara 2019.
In the competition, Telkom University Choir won the following achievements:

– 1st Place of Ethnic / Traditional Music Category
– Special Jury Prize on Creative Choreography
– Winner of the Taipei International Choral Competition (TICC) 2019
As a Grand Prix Winner at the “Taipei International Choral Competition (TICC) 2019”, Telkom University Choir was invited to attend the “World Choral Championship 2020” in Rimini, Italy in September next year.
