Telkom University Choir victoriously win the 31st International Franz Schubert Choir Competition – Vienna, Austria

AUSTRIA, TELKOM UNIVERSITY – Telkom University Choir won 1st place in “31st International Franz Schubert Choir Competition” in Vienna, Austria, held by Interkultur, Germany on May 30 – June 3, 2018. Telkom University Choir won 1st in two competition category namely the category of Sacred Choral Music (S) and Mixed Youth Choir category (G3)

As the only representative from Indonesia, Telkom University Choir competes with 17 other choirs from 11 countries: Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Norway, China Taipei, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Turkey, America and Vietnam.

Telkom University Choir, which consists of 34 singers, and 1 conductor is believed to be the opening choir that appeared in this competition Opening Ceremony which took place in Votivkirche by singingbringing traditional Indonesian songs accompanied by dance and costume that show and introduce Indonesian cultural identity.

In the Sacred Choral Music (S) category held on 1 June 2018 at Minoritenkirche, Telkom University Choir sang 3 sacred compositions of various musical era, Exultate Deo by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Abendlied by Josef Gabriel Rheinberger and Gloria Patri by Indonesian composers namely Budi Susanto John.

The team also performed other works in the Mixed Youth Choir (G3) category, The Heavens’ Flock by Eriks Esenvalds, Salve Regina by Franz Schubert, Dawn and Senja II by Ken Steven and Gaur Akelarre by Josu Elberdin. In this performance Telkom University Choir get direct support from Indonesian citizens living in Austria and Indonesian Ambassador in Austria and Staff Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Austria who came directly to watch Telkom University Choir competed in Wiener Konzerthaus on June 2, 2018.

In this competition Telkom University Choir successfully won in two categories with the title of Gold Diplome Level VI and get the highest score in the competition and get Qualified I as the qualification to follow the highest competition in the Interculture.

The departure team leader of Telkom University Choir, Ryan said that he is very grateful with the achievements he has achieved with his friends. According to him, the achievements obtained in this competition can be a spirit and a reference to face the next competition.

Currently Telkom University Choir is preparing for the next competition is the 9th International Krakow Choir Festival ‘Cracovia Cantans’ – Krakow, Poland which will take place on 7-10 July 2018.
