Telkom University Choir Achieves The Champion On Competition Soegijapranata Choral Festival 2018

BANDUNG, Telkom University – After last June won the international competition in Europe this time Telkom University Choir again won an achievement in local international competition entitled Soegijapranata Choral Festival 2018 which was held on September 6-9 2018 at the Auditorium of Albertus Building, Soegijapranata Catholic University, Semarang.

Soegijapranata Choral Festival 2018 is the first competition held by Gratia Choir Catholic University of Soegijapranata. Although this is the first time this competition is an international competition with judges who have international quality including Agastya Rama Listya (Indonesia), Budi Susanto Yohanes (Indonesia), Avip Priatna (Indonesia), Mark Anthony Carpio (Philippines), and Dr. Masashi Kishimoto (Japan).

Telkom University Choir participated in three categories, Sacred Music, Mixed Choir, and Folklore. In the Sacred Music category, Telkom University Choir sang 3 sacra repertoire from various times, namely Exultate Deo (Palestrina) from the Renaissance era, Heilig (Mendelssohn) from the romantic era, and Gloria Patri (Budi Susanto Yohanes) from contemporary times. In the Mixed Choir category Telkom University Choir performed the songs Fajar dan Senja II (Ken Steven), Napadly Pisne (Antonin Dvorak), and Gaur Akelarre (Josu Elberdin). In the Folklore category  Telkom University Choir raised Papuan culture using the clothes of the Papua region and performed the songs Yamko Rambe Yamko (arr. Agustinus Bambang Jusana) and the Benggong song from the Manggarai area (arr. Ken Steven).

“Although this competition is a new competition held for the first time but this competition is quite challenging for us, with quite heavy participants such as UNS, ITS, UB, UNDIP, and many more. Plus the short training which is only one month, and we bring 55 singers with the majority of new 2017 members, ”said Indriyana as the team leader in this competition.

In this competition Telkom University Choir competed with 48 other choirs and one of them was a participant from the Philippines, Xavier University Glee Club. Telkom University Choir was chosen as a participant in the Grand Prix round for their performance in the three categories they participated in. In the Grand Prix round, Telkom University Choir competed with 8 other choirs, namely Angelus Voice (Bernardus Semarang PL Elementary School), Domsav Choir (Domenico Savio PL Semarang), Viva Brio Choir (SMAN 1 Salatiga), Voca Erudita and Voca Erudita Female Choir ( Sebelas Maret University Surakarta), Diponegoro University Choir, Student Choir Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology Surabaya, and Administratio Choir (Brawijaya University Faculty of Administrative Sciences). In the competition, Telkom University Choir won the following achievements:

  • Gold Medal – Folklore (Category Winner)
  • Gold Medal – Sacred Music
  • Gold Medal – Mixed Choir
  • Best Program in Mixed Choir
  • 2nd Runner Up Grand Prix (3rd General Champion of 48 Choirs

Telkom University Choir achieved the highest score in the competition, namely 88.85 (folklore). With these achievements, hopefully Telkom University Choir is increasingly becoming a choir that develops and gets achievements on national and international levels.
