Telkom University carries Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with several universities to form a research consortium in the AI ??field called the Indonesian Artificial Intelligence Research Consortium (IARC). Some programs are proposed in this consortium under the Ministry of Education and Research and Technology.
Telkom University has prepared a program to support the acceleration of the National Strategy for 5G and 6G AI that can help overcome three main AI problems. The program was led by Suryo Adhi Wibowo, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. It received Kedaireka funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture-Ristek.
“Acceleration and Supporting Stranas AI in the field of 5G and 6G is a program and contribution of Telkom University to Indonesia, especially in the field of AI in 5G and 6G technology,” he explained.
Suryo added that this program aligns with Telkom University’s vision and mission to become a Global Research and Entrepreneurial University. This AI development program has four pillars. First, human resource development and mastery of science and technology. Second sustainable economic development. Third, equitable growth. Lastly, national security and governance. This program is in line with the support of human resources development that masters science and technology, making Indonesia one of the countries with the latest mastery of science and technology.
There are three activities carried out in this programโfirst, efforts to accelerate HR talents who excel in AI. Second, produce AI-based research work for the nation’s children and can be utilized by the community. Finally, establishing collaboration between universities and industry and creating new AI startups.
Currently, Telkom University already has a sophisticated infrastructure to develop AI, namely the procurement of the DGX A-100 supercomputer, which can help optimize the management of a large amount of data along with the development and computation process of the AI ??algorithm used. This infrastructure is also commonly used in the industrial world to minimize the gap between the academic world and industry.
The acceleration program team and support for the National Strategic Reserves have also prepared a program for the development of IARC in collaboration with several participants from students and lecturers, including the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) through the Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS) Associate Data Science program for instructors and lecturers.
“The purpose of this program is to produce digital talents in Indonesia who excel in the field of AI, especially in the development and creation of AI-Based products that will be implemented in 5G and 6G technology later.”
The utilization of the AI ??Center of Excellence is expected to accelerate the growth of startups in the AI ??field. So, in addition to supporting the vision and mission of Telkom University as a Global Research and Entrepreneurial University, this program can help the vision and mission of Indonesia Gold 2045, contributing to increasing GDP and the competitiveness of Indonesian human resources.
“The hope of this program is the realization of the ideals according to these goals, and Telkom University can increasingly play a big role and contribute to Indonesia, especially in the fields of education, research and community service, and entrepreneurship.”
