Hundreds of Tel-U Students Graduate from the Bangkit Program 2022

JAKARTA, Telkom University – The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) of the Republic of Indonesia announced the graduation of 2,517 students after joining the Bangkit program in 2022. The event was held in Jakarta Tuesday (6/9) and was broadcast live on the Google Indonesia Youtube Channel.

Based on the Ministry of Education and Culture Press Release Number: 563/sipres/A6/IX/2022, Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek), Nadiem Anwar Makarim, explained that the Ministry of Education and Culture together with Grow with Google succeeded in graduating 2,517 students from 226 campuses throughout Indonesia. The students participating in the Bangkit program have attended 900 hours of industry-based training in technology, non-technical skills (soft skills), and mastery of foreign languages.

“Today, we recorded an important history in the Merdeka Learning movement with more than 3,000 students from hundreds of universities in Indonesia becoming independent through the Merdeka Campus program,” he said.

Up 60 percent from last year, Bangkit 2022 is in demand by 63,000 students from 32 provinces in Indonesia. Then, through ability selection and administrative files, as many as 3,100 of the best students were accepted as participants. For the record, as many as 67 percent of Bangkit’s participants this year came from small and medium-sized cities. The results of their studies are reflected in the 18,000 specializations/micro-credentials in Machine Learning, Mobile Development, or Cloud Computing that the participants have achieved overall, said Nadiem.

This year, continued Nadiem, Kemendikbudristek presents Teaching Practitioners and Independent Entrepreneurs as a new MBKM program with the same goal, namely to liberate students from the limitations of the study, scientific, or specialization programs.

“In the future, the younger generation is increasingly required to become university graduates with multidisciplinary knowledge and abilities so that they can face bigger waves and stronger winds,” he said.

Furthermore, the Minister of Education and Technology advised students to develop their potential. “University graduates must also provide benefits to others, the nation, and the state. For that, use this graduation momentum as a stepping stone to make small changes that will have a big positive impact over time,” said Nadiem.

Of the thousands of graduates of the Bangkit program in 2022, 113 Telkom University students successfully graduated from the Bangkit program. Through this program, two teams from Telkom University succeeded in being included in the best Capstone Project. They had the opportunity to obtain industry mentors and incubation funds of 140 million from Google. And the Directorate of Research Technology and Community Service (DRTPM) of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology (Ditjen Diktiristek).

The two teams are the Journey team with the supervisor Dr. Koredianto Usman and the Skinku team with their supervisor Suryo Adhi Wibowo, Ph.D.

Quoting from dikti.kemdikbud.go.id, the Capstone Project is one of the project programs from the Bangkit program, where participants are encouraged to create real impacts for their surroundings. In the past years, Bangkit has focused on challenging participants to innovate to create product solutions for problems in the public domain, such as the environment, health, economic resilience, etc., according to the theme chosen by the participants. 

The project is called the “Product-Based Capstone Product” and was participated by more than 400 teams, of which 15 teams managed to qualify for the Best Capstone Project and were entitled to industry mentors and an incubation fund of 140 million.
