With the development of media and technology, Telkom University students created an innovative tool in the form of I-CERYOS (IoT Coffee Cherry to Compost). This innovation is a planting media accelerator machine made from coffee cherry waste based on IoT. I-CERYOS won the achievement as TOP 150 Innovillage 2022.
This innovation tool was created by three students at the School of Electrical Engineering Telkom University, namely Muhammad Aflah as the team leader, Figo Ramadhan F.R., and Difa Yudha Pratama, supervised by Angga Rusdinar S.T., M.T., Ph.D. This research took place in Stamplat Girang Village, Ciparay Village, Indragiri Village, Rancabali District, Bandung Regency, Ciwidey, West Java, where the majority of people work as coffee and tea farmers.
The idea of this innovation is a digital solution for coffee and tea farmers to obtain fertilizers due to limited access to the village. With this innovation, farmers can reduce the fermentation time of coffee cherries.
“In addition, this innovation can also monitor the pH and nutrition of fertilizers to ensure it meets the needs of coffee and tea plants,” said Aflah as I-CERYOS Team Leader.
The monitoring process takes two weeks to conduct. When the fertilizer is ready to be used for planting, the green LED and LCD will show the fertilizer is ready to be used by the farmers.
“With this innovation tool, it is expected to increase the efficiency of coffee and tea plantation products, especially since the local community has tried to start producing their own coffee to be marketed,” added Aflah.
