BANDUNG, TEL-U – English debate team SES Telkom University ranks third in the National University Debating Championship (NUDC) organized by the Directorate General of Higher Education, 18 – May 20, 2015 and at the University of Widyatama Bandung.
By doing so, eight teams with the high scores will be sent to the national level competition which held onAugust. There, the team will compete against other regions Kopertis representative to choose as representatives that will be sent to the international level the World University Debating Championship in Thessaloniki Greece.
Tel-U team consisting of Ranna Artha Jayanti (MBTI International) and Ryan Aminullah reached the Grand Final by debating the motion “This House Supports Vatican’s recognition of Palestine as a State”.
According to Ranna, competition which followed by 31 teams from various universities in the West Java using British Parliamentary system. Each session in this system consists of 4 teams each consisting of 2 people and divided into debate opening and closing debate. “In this race, there are three preliminary rounds where each team collects points, then selected 16 teams into the knockout stage,” he said.
In these competitions, Ranna Artha Jayanti also managed to become 4th best speaker and Ryan Aminullah was ranked the 8th best from all participants. Moreover, Ida Salina Ginting, student of Textile Craft and Fashion, Faculty of Creative Industries was also included in the top 6 highest score as N1 Adjudicator by winning sequence to five.
Ranna said that, following the debate competition was a valuable experience to be able to feel the actual work environment. “In the race, we are required to have analytical thinking, respond quickly, and do the research properly to resolve an issue that must be completed in accordance with the specified deadlines,” he said.
