Synergistic Collaboration between Telkom University and PT Indo Trans Technology

Bandung, TELKOM UNIVERSITY – The FITTEL-U Research Group from the School of Applied Sciences Telkom University managed to get a Vocational Research Grant for Higher Education Vocational Education Providers (PTPPV) and became the only research group that passed the various stages of this Vocational Research Grant selection.

FITTEL-U consists of lecturers from the School of Applied Sciences including Gita Indah Hapsari, Lisda Meisaroh, Muhammad Rizqy Alfarisi, Giva Andriana Mutiara, and Fanni Husnul Hanifa. Lecturers who are members of this research team have different areas of expertise, namely Embedded Systems, Mathematics, Programming, and Marketing Management.

In this grant, the FITTEL-U team is collaborating with research partner PT Indo Trans Teknologi or known as TransTRACK.ID. The products produced from this research collaboration are aligned with requests from autobus companies who are consumers of TransTRACK.ID so that they have appropriate specifications. TransTRACK.ID also participates in conducting research in terms of procuring research components such as the Teltonika GPS module and data server.

The implementation of this Vocational Grant Research involves D3 Computer technology students in semester 5 in the process so that they can use the MBKM (Independence Learn Kampus Merdeka) scheme with an equivalent of 18 credits for Internship and Final Project courses. With the MBKM program, students can be assisted in completing their studies as well as assisting lecturers in conducting research. Students involved in this Vocational Research research include Farhan Hamdani, Dimas Salim, Ramadhanu Putra Ariandi, Farhan Syaibir, Muhammad Harris Dharmawan Pratama, I Kadek Leo Gustananda, and Mitsal Fabian Nadhiem.

The product resulting from this research is a passenger counting and tracking system. The calculations were carried out using two cameras. Camera 1 is placed at the top of the bus entrance facing down and camera 2 is placed at the front of the bus facing the passengers. The camera on the bus door is used to detect and count incoming and outgoing passengers while the camera on the front of the bus counts passengers who are/sat on the bus. The front camera also captures images at certain time intervals which are then sent to TransTRACK.ID’s Event Data Recorder (EDR) is black box data that can be used by bus companies in the future. The number of passengers counted from the two cameras was sent to TransTRACK.ID’s EDR for further processing.

GPS data is used to track bus movements and track drop-off locations as well as pick-up passengers. This GPS data will be presented with data on the number of passengers who get on and off and then sent to EDR. This research also produces a web application that has the functions of displaying bus movement maps, device registration, vehicle registration, the configuration of image capture time intervals, and manual image capture.

Gita Infah Hapsari the head of the research team explained that with this grant, the partnership between academics, especially the D3 Computer Technology and D3 Marketing Management Study Program lecturers, gained a lot of valuable experience on how a research idea must start from problems found in the industry so that the resulting research products can be implemented and following the needs of the business world and the industrial world.

“Hopefully this synergistic collaboration with Trans Track.ID partners can continue even more broadly not only in the field of research but can support study program curricula so as to produce graduates who are reliable, have competencies that are in line with the demands of DUDI (business and industrial world).”

As additional information, the Research Grant Program organized by the Director General of Vocational Studies, namely Domestic Applied Scientific Research – Vocational Education Provider Higher Education Lecturers (PTPPV) is a grant activity that aims to encourage researchers at universities, especially Vocational Higher Education, to collaborate with industry/MSMEs to produce a synergistic research collaboration that can be a solution for society and improve the country’s economy. The research aims to produce appropriate technology that has beneficial values for society, has economic-social values, and is based on real problems that occur in society or even in the industrial world.
