Telkom University (Tel-U) establishes a research collaboration with industrial partners, PT. Bio Farma successfully spawned the Smart Lighting System innovation product to build a Green Ecosystem based on the Internet of Things (IoT) in Bio Farma’s corporate environment. The lead researcher in this study is Dr. Maman Abdurohman, one of the professors in the field of Information Technology from the Tel-U Faculty of Informatics. He explained that the lighting system in a company is essential to be appropriately managed so that electricity use is more efficient.
“In this study, there is an effort to build an efficient lighting system by utilizing IoT technology that can control the use of lighting indoors and outdoors according to need. Various rooms require different lighting systems according to the room’s purpose.” Mama explained.
According to him, the research project’s aim, which will run from 2019-2021, is divided into two stages: A short-term target is to have an intelligent lighting system covering one building. The medium-term target is implementing intelligent lighting systems in the educational campus environment.
“By using this intelligent lighting system, it is expected that electricity usage in PT. Bio Farma can be controlled by staying according to user needs. So that in its journey, a Green Ecosystem will be formed in that environment. This coincides with the Sustainable Development Goals launched by the government,” said Maman.
Green Ecosystem is an optimization condition in utilizing Information Technology infrastructure that still pays attention to the environment. The application of technology is one of the strategic efforts of the company to improve process performance in managing company systems. This study attempts to combine the source of electricity from PLN and use an independent power source from solar panels. This research succeeded in obtaining funding of 2.1 billion from the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) and 1.1 billion from related partners. This funding is disbursed over three years in stages. This study also involved 12 research members from three different institutions: Telkom University, Bio Farma, and PT. Indonesian Telecommunications Industry (INTI).
