SEMARANG, Telkom University – Telkom University Choir again achieved a proud achievement in the international choir competition titled 5th Karangturi International Choir Competition 2019 – Semarang, Indonesia which was held on November 13-16, 2019 at the Liem Liang Peng Theater Semarang.
The competition was participated by 58 choir teams from various parts of Indonesia and also from the Philippines and was attended by 6 world-class judges and choir experts namely Lim Ai Hoii (Singapore), Susanna Saw (Malaysia), Agastya Rama Listya (Indonesia), Budi Utomo Prabowo (Indonesia), Indra Listiyanto (Indonesia) and Diani Rinarti Sitompul (Indonesia). Telkom University Choir competes by bringing as many as 62 singers under the tutelage of conductor Aldo Randy Ginting who is the team with the most singers ever brought in 5 years Telkom University Choir competed. In this event, Telkom University Choir participated in 3 categories of competitions in the 5th Karangturi International Choir Competition 2019 namely Musica Sacra Category, Mixed Category and Folklore Category.
In the Musica Sacra category held on November 13, 2019, Telkom University Choir presented Ave Maria by Lin, Ming-Chieh, Os Justi by Anton Bruckner and for the first time brought Nicholas Rio’s Fecit Potentiam as the winner in the composition competition of the Sacred Music of 7th Satya Dharma Gita Choir Festival 2019. While in the Mixed Category category held on November 14, 2019, Telkom University Choir performed the song The Heavens’s Flock arrangement by Eriks Esenvalds, Zigeunerleben by Robert Schumann and Gaur Akelarre by Josu Elberdin.
In the Folklore category held on November 15, 2019, the team also performed 3 folk songs originating from Indonesia and the Philippines, namely Kruhay (Philippines) by Beny F. Castillon, Percomah (Sunda) arrangement by Nicholas Rio, and Janger (Bali) arranged by Arrangement by Avip Priatna and Agustinus Bambang Jusana.
In the 5th Karangturi International Choir Competition 2019, Telkom University Choir won 3 Gold Medals in each category that was followed. Telkom University Choir also successfully won the champion title in the Mixed Choir and Folklore categories and received the highest score of all participants in the competition with a value of 86.55 (Mixed Choir Category).
With this victory, Telkom University Choir qualified for the Grand Prix round which was held on November 16, 2019, and competed with 7 other qualifying choirs, namely:Gratia Choir Unika Soegijapranata, Voca Erudita Female Choir Eleven March State University, Student Choir of Gadjah Mada University, St. Louis High School Choir, Angelus Voice Pangudi Luhur Elementary School Semarang, PSM Voca Erudita Sebelas Maret State University and St. Louis Female Choir.
