Telkom University lecturers carry out a community service program (Abdimas) which aims to provide direct education to the community outside of students. Last Friday (11/3/2022), SMK Telkom 1 Medan was chosen to be the target partner of the program.
The program coordinator, Martha Tri Lestari, said that what she did this time in partnership with SMK Telkom 1 Medan would take place from March to April 2022.
“This Abdimas targets the literacy of Telkom school stakeholders in Medan, including families, not only those who work in schools, especially digital media for marketing activities,” explained Martha.
A lecturer in Communication Science at Telkom University and resource person, Indra Adibayu Pamungkas, explained that the digital media era significantly influenced marketing patterns, especially what schools had to do to attract the public.
“Social media must be more than just a place to find entertainment. We must make it part of our work. Marketing the advantages of schools through social media will be much more liked by the public,” explained Indra, who is also a doctoral student at Sahid University Jakarta.
Meanwhile, another resource person, Dini Salmiyah, added that creativity and foresight are needed in using social media as a marketing medium.
“Creativity is the key to producing attractive marketing products, especially social media, which is simultaneously used by its users as a place for creativity itself,” he said.
“A strategy of measuring opportunities must also be carried out to identify strengths and weaknesses and understand target marketing needs,” added another resource person, Tita Melia.
Abdimas Telkom University is carried out collaboratively, involving the Faculties of Applied Sciences, Communication, Business, and Economics and Business.
