BANDUNG, TEL-U – a university paradigm continues to change over. In the BC era, Aristotle expressed his views about college. He considered university to find the truth. On that era, the scientific research is limited, except in the case of finding the ultimate truth.
That is a part of speech delivered by academician and former Rector of Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB), Prof. Akhmaloka Ph.D at Tel-U Academic Coordination Meeting in auditorium Faculty of Applied Industrial (FIT), Thursday (20/8).
Akhmaloka added, the view about university as developed in accordance with the necessity at the time. Cicero thought that university should be oriented to the communityโs need. Entering the 19th century, the orientation of the university shifted to the goal of becoming the institution that produces community-based teaching professional.
“Now of course we agree that there are three functions of universities. First, university must create the best graduands and the best researchers. Second, universities must be able to create new science and renewable. And thirdly, the university must be able to contribute a high and positive spirit to the community, “he said.
Clearly, innovation will happen with research. Therefore, research should be applied, for example, generate new business and allow people to work, so the effect can be directly felt by public.
“Universities are not just graduate degree. He must be an agent of economic growth. Bachelor is expected to be an agent of transformation of culture, science and technology, “said Akhmaloka.
Similar to Akhmaloka, Tel-U Rector Prof. Dr. Mochammad Ashari, M.Eng., Ph.D. asserted, Telkom University has a vision to become a world-class universities play an active role in the development of science and art based technology information.
“Through the implementation of education, Telkom university develop an international standard education, as well as disseminating science technology, management, art, and use it for the welfare and progress of civilization,” said Rector.
He said that, in addition to producing graduands who have integrity, competence and competitiveness, Telkom University also can create a culture of research, produce works of research and beneficial innovation product.
