Telkom University Took The Second Position of Cyber Defence Competition 2014

BANDUNG, TEL-U – The Anthurium from the Faculty of Informatics (School of Computing) Telkom University successfully took the 2nd place in General Category at the Defence Competition 2014 that was held on Thursday – Friday (8-9/5) in Surabaya.

Cyber Defence Competition was one of the prestigious event in the field of network security which include Computer Forensic, Computer Network Defence, Capture the Flag, and Penetration Testing. This Competition was held by the Ministry of Defence of Indonesia and supported by Indonesia Security Incident Response Team on Internet Infrastructure (ID-SIRTII) as technical executor, Association of Indonesian Internet Service Povider (APJII), PANDI, Nawala, Inixindo, INDOCISCM, ITS and ITB.

According to the Head of the Anthurium, Anwar Al Anhar, the execution of this competition consisted of two sessions which is offline and online. The phase online started since June 12th-15th 2014 with a gradual selection in different region like Sumatra, Jawa and Madura, Bali and Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan and Sulawesi, serta Maluku and Papua.

“The execution of the online competition took place in participant’s origin places, while the offline took place at the Naval Academy Bumi Moro Surabaya on last Thursday and Friday,” he said.
Besides Anwar, this team consist of three students from the Faculty of Informatics and one students from the Faculty of Electro who were in one laboratory. They are Vandika Fauzi, Ardian Septa Nugraha, Chandra Mahendra Putra, and Hengku Yudha Bintara.

The judges of this competition were professionals and practitioners who are known reliable in their field. Total of the judges were 13 judges, including Mr Blake Rahardjo (ITB) and Mr Hariadi who represented the academic fields, BPPT (Mr Hamam Riza), APJII (Mr Irvan Nasrun, Mr. Semi), PANDI (Mr Andi Budimansyah), Nawala and ID-SIRTII/CC, etc.

The Online Elimination Participant with total 88 teams were spread throughout Indonesia based on regional and the final contestant consisted of 25 teams which consisted of: 15 general teams (12 teams through online selection, the stands champion, and 2 invited teams), 5 teams of students (through online selection) and 9 teams from the members of TNI AD, TNI AL, TNI AU also Kemenhan that was grouped into general categories.

The Anthurium team is one of the team which consisted of 5 Comsys Lab Members under the auspices of the Telkom Faculty of Informatics (School of Computing) which was established in late 2013. This team was dedicated to participate in competition in the field of ICT, especially in the Security Field. This team previously named YOLO ever got 2nd General Champion and the winner of Forensic Category in Cyber Jawara Competition 2013. By the turn of one member of the team, the name altered to Anthurium. The first competition they participated was ICFC (International Cyber Forensic Competition) on December 2013 and succeeded won the 3rd Champion
The Dean of Informatics Faculty Dr. Maman Abdurohman S.T., M.T, greeted the victory of these students gratefully. “I am very grateful for your struggle and hopefully we can maintain this victory. We have to always remember that in this university achievement is tradition,” said Maman. (KomPro/raf)
