BANDUNG, Telkom University โ Telkom University, as the best private campus in Indonesia, has the opportunity to become the first Telecom Infra Project (TIP) Community Lab in Southeast Asia and the 14th in the world, where a laboratory focused on improving connectivity in Indonesia. The world was inaugurated directly by the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G Plate, online, on December 17, 2020.
On the first anniversary of the TIP Community Lab on Wednesday (2/2), the Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny G Plate, said that Telkom University and TIP collaborated one year ago to foster innovation to encourage national connectivity in line with the Making Indonesia 4.0 program.
“Because every region in Indonesia deserves proper internet connectivity. We congratulate on celebrating one year of Telkom University’s Telecom Infra Project community lab, continue to encourage innovation, and make Indonesia connected, more digital, more advanced,” he said.
The Telecom Infra Project (TIP) is a global community of companies and organizations driving infrastructure solutions to advance global connectivity. It is well known that half of the world’s population is still not connected to the Internet, and connectivity is often insufficient for those who are connected.
TIP Community Lab collaborates between GSMA, TIP, the Indonesian government, Telkom University, and cellular network operators to support the ‘Making Indonesia 4.0’ program.
This collaboration seeks to advance digital and economic growth in Indonesia by testing and validating TIP standards-based and selected open network technologies in the Lab and the field. Also, by advancing the adoption of commercially viable solutions, building a local talent pool, and fostering a robust and robust telecommunications ecosystem. Diverse, including the startup economy.
Also attending the event, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia (Menko Marves RI), Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, represented by Prof. Johannes Surya as the special advisor to the Coordinating Minister for MARVES. In his speech, Prof. Johannes congratulated TIP Community Lab; hopefully, TIP can continue to provide more comprehensive benefits to the community, especially in improving telecommunications for people in Indonesia.
“We also appreciate TIP for collaborating with us in developing a network in a strategic area in North Sumatra, for the sake of advancing productivity and quality of agricultural products with technological innovation,” he said.
Prof. Johannes added that it is an honor for the Indonesian people to be the home of the first TIP Community Lab in Southeast Asia and the 14th in the world.
The TIP Community Lab APAC at Telkom University has been running for more than one year without realizing it. This laboratory has become the center of collaboration for all cellular operators in Indonesia with other members of the TIP community, namely GSMA, system integrators, MNOs, OIM. This Community Lab has been running, evaluating, and adopting solutions developed by the TIP Project Group and providing new results and requirements back to the TIP community for further development.
Rector of Telkom University, Prof. Adiwijaya, in his speech, expressed his gratitude to all parties who have been involved in the first TIP Community Lab in Southeast Asia. According to him, the collaboration in TIP can provide benefits in solving problems both nationally and globally.
“We hope that TIP can continue to contribute to advancing the world of telecommunications in Indonesia through innovations that are beneficial to society,” he said.
The 1st Anniversary TIP Community Lab APAC event at Telkom University was also filled with webinars, and talk shows entitled “Connectivity Improvements On The Rular And Urban Area” with speakers from various sectors who became the TIP community. Many telecommunication companies were also present to be speakers at the webinar, including GSMA, Telecom Infra Project, Cellular Operators (Telkomsel, Indosat, XL, Smartfren, H3I, and Net-1), Berca, GCI, Telkom University, and Meta. The telecommunications companies that are members of the TIP, for the past year, have actively collaborated and participated in developing and donating technologies that can be utilized at the TIP Community Lab Telkom University.
Entering the 2nd year of the APAC Community Lab TIP, Telkom University actively develops new technologies, creates digital talent and local products, and produces startups to encourage equitable distribution of digitalization and fast national connectivity. Through the first anniversary event, the collaboration between GSMA, Cellular Operators, government, and Industry, this Lab will continue to be a focal point for solution development and innovation and is expected to support the creation of a stronger and more connected Indonesia through the expansion of digital connectivity, new digital platforms, and digital services.
