BANDUNG, TEL-U – D3 Informatics Engineering Faculty of Applied Sciences Telkom University (FIT Tel-U) established close relationship with the DAQRI Company which acquiring the ARToolworks (owner ARToolKit). ARToolKit chose Telkom University to interlace the cooperation because Tel-U is actively participate in competition which is being held by ARToolKit.
As a first step of cooperation, ARToolKit held the Seminar entitled “Augmented Reality: Understanding the Concepts and Building Applications”. “This is the first step towards the cooperation plan,” said Noor Fat’hah Prawita, ST, MT, as the event coordinator and a lecturer of D3 Informatics Engineering Tel-U.
According to Fat’hah, Ben Vaughan, DAQRI Chief Open Source Evangelist, offered the cooperation in the form of “ARToolKit Centers of Excellence”.
“ARToolKit Centers of Excellence same as collaboration between Microsoft and ITB or UGM which made Microsoft Innovation Center (MIC). ARToolKit named it as ARToolKit Centers of Excellence by selecting Telkom University to collaborate, “he said.
Activities held in the Multimedia Room, Selaru Building 3rd floor Tel-U, Wednesday (2/12) aimed to promote how easy to build augmented reality applications using ARToolKit application, and realize that the research opportunities in the field of augmented reality using ARToolKit is widely open.
This event held over two consecutive days, starting with a seminar on Wednesday (2/12) and Workshop on Thursday (3/12), highlighted by the experienced speaker in the field of Augmented Reality for the last 5 years and is often invited to various conferences Augmented Reality world scale, namely Ben Vaughan (DAQRI Chief Open Source Evangelist) and Wally Young (ARToolKit Technical Product Manager).
Augmented Reality seminar was attended by participants from lecturers and students of D3 Informatics Engineering also invited professors and students from other courses in the process of teaching and research include the field of Augmented Reality.
Fat’hah added that Augmented Reality is often used in the field of education and marketing, “Augmented Reality itself is now used for manufacture and marketing of learning applications, which is when we detect an image that is already registered, the above image will appear a 3D objects “, said Fat’hah.
