Found Installation of Solar Cells for Mapur Island Residents Students Tel U Crowned as 1st Winner Prize 2016 IAS Awards

BANDUNG, TEL-U – Again, Telkom University students earn achievements in the international arena. This time the feat achieved by team of Garuda Malacca on Industry Application Society (IAS) Awards 2016 were followed Student and Young Professional Representatives member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) from around the world.

This accomplishment was achieved after they create designs and makes the device power installations of solar cells in Mapur Island, Riau, Indonesia. “The scenery on the Mapur Island very beautiful and has great potential, especially in tourism. But unfortunately there is still minimal electricity,” said Amanda Julia Isa, one of the team, on Wednesday (22/6).

The team consists of four people: two students, Muhammad Ibnu Muharrom (2013) and Masriza Kurniawan (2012) and Amanda Julia Isa who had just graduated last April. All three are equipped with one of their colleagues, Dewi Mariam.

Based on Mapur Island conditions, said Amanda, then they draw up a proposal contained by model, design, implementation, and documentation for their design and conduct the installation of the solar-powered electric light.

Their proposals entitled “Implementation of Pondok Terang Renewable Energy and IoT Technology Applications to Provide Sustainability of Electricity Power and Disaster Prevention at Mapur Island, Riau, Indonesia”.

“We made a pilot project of pondok terang; consists of the design and installation of the solar cell, the manufacture of street lights, internet access, and wireless sensor network as a disaster prevention system in collaboration with a research team from the University of Gadjah Mada,” said Amanda.

Finally, they made sweet effort. Judges set them as the winner of the 1st Prize (1st on behalf of IEEE Indonesia Section and Telkom University). They set aside other IEEE members from Peru and Pakistan, each of which was ranked 2nd and 3rd.

As one proof of their work, the installation process they documented in the form of videos that have been uploaded on Youtube with address https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WVEJT5GDnfU
