Tel-U Helps Improve Livestock Quality in Lampung

Tel U Bantu Tingkatkan Kualitas Ternak di Lampung

NORTH LAMPUNG, Telkom University โ€“ Telkom University (Tel-U) has developed an innovative product namely the Renewable Technology-based Grass Cutter Machine and Management Application which is implemented in Bandar Sakti village, Abung Surakarta district, North Lampung regency, Lampung province. The innovation product is a social project activity carried out by Telkom University through Innovillage program, which is a sociopreneurship competition in the field of digital technology.

Rahmat Yasirandi, lecturer of School of Computing at Tel-U as well as the supervisor for PERMALA (Lampung Student Association at Telkom University), assisted 3 Bachelor students of Telecommunication Engineering, School of Electrical Engineering (SEE) consisting of Firman A.G. Roni as the team leader, and Fakhri Rahmatullah and Ananda Mutiara P. as the team members.

In the Digital Social Solution category (digital for social impact solution for the community), Rahmat explained that his team decided to choose North Lampung due to the reason that it is an area that has a large land area and favorable weather for establishing animal husbandry.

โ€œIn addition to being the realization of PERMALAโ€™s effort to develop our hometown, since 2016, the Bandar Sakti village together with the Livestock Group from other villages has provided high quality livestock for qurban during Eid al-Adha.โ€ said Rahmat.

Rahmat explained that the working mechanism of the application is to facilitate users in monitoring the income and expenses of the livestock feed and thus helping farmers to optimize their livestock products.

โ€œWe worked on the application and the tool for around three weeks. The grass cutter was designed in a simple way and uses solar energy to operate the dynamo and the rotating blades for chopping the grass. Meanwhile, for the management application, users can input their income and expenditure in the application, and later the application will display the graph and history of their data, and assist the users in calculating the total and expenses automatically.โ€ he explained.

Rahmat shared that the application that he together with his team made, was intended for implementing good animal feed practices for livestock. The Livestock Agency of North Lampung also provided assistance in this activity.

โ€œWe are happy by the enthusiasm shown from the community. Many residents find the socialization to be helpful as they are able to learn the technology and are able to directly ask questions to livestock experts on good livestock farming practices that could help farmers produce satisfactory results.โ€ he further explained.

With this activity, Telkom University has assisted 3 out of 17 SDG programs, which are Affordable and Clean Energy, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and Sustainable Cities and Communities.
