BANDUNG, Telkom University – As the only participant from Indonesia and Southeast Asia, Telkom University Choir managed to bring a spectacular performance at the international choir competition entitled 2nd International Youth Choir Festival Aegis Carminis 2021 Koper, Slovenia. This competition was held on Friday, 14 May 2021 online on the official Youtube channel and Facebook of Aegis Carminis.
In this competition, 17 choirs participated from 8 countries, such as Russia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Taiwan, Ukraine, United States, Italy, and Indonesia. Judging by 5 judges and world-class choir experts, namely Gary Graden (Sweden), Petra Grassi (Italy-Slovenia), Marco Antonio Garcia De Paz (Spain), Naomi Faran (Israel), and Stojan Kuret (Italy-Slovenia), this competition was splendid. Telkom University Choir participated by presenting the best 39 singers under the guidance of conductor Aldo Randy Ginting.
The team participated in category A (Choirs up to 27 years) and performed a song by a young Indonesian composer, Dies Irae, and composed by Ken Steven. The song brought the luckiest, Telkom University Choir won 2nd PLACE (ex aequo) with a score of 86.7 and received a special award, namely the Special Prize – The Most Original Video Production.
“This is the second online international competition that the Telkom University Choir has participated in. The biggest challenge in this competition lies in the preparation with only 2-3 months, the singers who are scattered all over the archipelago have to practically practice using zoom. ” Said Winnie Angeline as the Competition Team Leader.
