Telkom University Holds the First Metaverse Graduation in Indonesia

BANDUNG, Telkom University – The Telkom University Senate Open Session (Tel-U) with the agenda for the graduation of Masters, Bachelors, Applied Bachelors, and Associate Experts Period II the Academic Year 2021/2022 was held on Saturday (09 April 2022).

This time, the Telkom University Graduation is a little different. The Telkom University Graduation Period II FY 2021/2022 is held in the Metaverse world for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020.

According to Dr. Anisah Firli, the head of the graduation committee for period II, the graduation ceremony using the Metaverse platform was the first to be held in Indonesia.

“We use this platform as a form of Telkom University innovation and want to provide a new experience for Telkom University graduates, where we want to present the Metaverse that we recently echoed for graduates,” he said.

Firli added that the big theme for the graduation period II for the 2021/2022 academic year is the Tangguh Generation. This theme has a philosophy that graduates are expected to become people who have the commitment and be laborious in facing challenges in the future.

“This resilience is a reflection of the response to various situations by continuing to explore, innovate, and develop ourselves to continue contributing to the nation. Thank you for fighting for higher education during the current pandemic. Hopefully, this can be a provision in the future and make you a strong generation,” 

Fat’hah Noor Prawita, a lecturer at the School of Applied Sciences (FIT) Telkom University, developed this concept. She explained that the graduation from Telkom University with the Metaverse concept is supported by the Mozilla Hubs platform, which has been customized so that graduates can experience the experience. Graduation directly on campus, using a laptop device or Virtual Reality (VR) headset.

“We took the Damar Building as the venue, one of the auditorium buildings since STT Telkom was established. The Damar Building is made virtually like the original. Not only that, but graduates can also choose their respective avatar characters according to their faculties and characteristics. In this case, he was assisted by Rikman Aherliwan Rudawan, a D4 lecturer in Multimedia Engineering Technology FIT, and his student team in making avatars and visuals of the Damar Building.” Obviously.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the Senate of Telkom University, Dr. Ismail, inaugurated 1,285 graduates from 32 study programs among 43 study programs in seven faculties at Telkom University.

After going through this inauguration procession, the graduates will join the Telkom University Alumni Forum (FAST) with more than 64 thousand alumni spread across 30 countries, including the United States, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Netherland, and Sweden. Norway, France, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Nigeria, and Nepal, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Timor Leste.

Rector of Telkom University, Prof. Dr. Adiwijaya, in his speech, was proud of all graduates who have completed their education at Telkom University.

“Congratulations to all graduates. During this pandemic, they are still eager to complete their obligations as students to carry out their graduation. We thank the parents/guardians who have entrusted their sons and daughters to study at Telkom University,” he said.

Prof. Adiwijaya said that in 2022, Telkom University targets to become a university by prioritizing Entrepreneurial Culture Excellence by instilling an entrepreneurial culture for the entire academic community.

“As a university that has received the Widyapadhi Award for three consecutive years (2018, 2019, and 2020), namely as the best university in innovation management, and since 2019 Telkom University research has been included in the Independent Cluster, namely the “Highest” cluster from the Ministry of Research and Technology. -BRIN. In line with this, currently, more than 50 start-ups produced by Tel-U have contributed economically to Indonesia.” Obviously.

Telkom University has been accredited with Superior, where Tel-U became the first private university in Indonesia to obtain Superior accreditation. Previously Tel-U was certified with an A in 2016. Telkom University has also been awarded the title of the best private university (PTS) in Indonesia. For two consecutive years (2019 and 2020) by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education.

Following the theme of this graduation, namely the Tangguh Generation, Prof. Adiwijaya said, to become a tough generation, there are four things that graduates need to remember. The first is that colleagues must have the ability to be Problem Solving, provide solutions to problems in the community, then have good Self-Management or Leadership. , it is necessary for a leader.

“After that, colleagues must be able to cooperate with anyone, establish good collaboration and communication, and finally continue to update the latest technology and use the technology as an accelerator to facilitate the resolution of existing problems. Thus, God willing, our colleagues will become a RESILIENT GENERATION for ADVANCED INDONESIA,” he said.

On this happy day, Prof. Adiwijaya advised all graduates following Telkom University’s tagline as a printer of future leaders. To become a person who is said to be well educated. There are three things to remember.

“Continue to develop creativity and innovation to adapt to existing conditions. Then self-evaluate, and be able to carry out continuous quality improvement to be a better person. Don’t forget that what we do must align with the norms and existing rules,” Prof. Adiwijaya.
