Telkom University Keeps Doing Research in Avionics

In October 2022, Telkom University (Tel-U) received an aircraft grant from the Retired First Marshal of Indonesia National Army, Sardjono. Now, this aircraft is used by Tel-U to do research in avionics.

The development is based on the desire of Tel-U’s lecturers, Dr. Nina Hendrarini S.T., M.T.; Dr. Duddy Soegiarto S.T., M.T; Ema S.T., M.T and Teguh Asfriyanto S.T., M.T.

The team of lecturers from School of Applied Sciences established Research Alliance (RA) Aviation as a forum to accommodate all aerospace-related activities in Telkom University.

Research Alliance (RA) Aviation was formally legalized with the decree from vice rector for research, innovation, and cooperation affairs of Telkom University on January 20, 2023. The contribution in aviation in the form of research’s results are expected to broaden the horizon of aviation’s perspective by adding ICT-based aviation competencies.

Currently, the RA Aviation team is conducting research in making the competency certification for aircraft technician under the name Approved Maintenance Training Organization (AMTO). AMTO hopefully becomes an organization capable of holding the certification for candidates of aircraft technicians.

Ema explained, “The process to establish AMTO will be very long; for instance, one of them is opening the study program. It is because a technician who wants to work in an aircraft is mandatory to have the basic lesson/basic certificate/additional certificate in aviation.”

The research conducted by RA Aviation is not only there, henceforth, the team will establish Aviation Maintenance Organization (AMO), a startup in aircraft maintenance. There is a lot of research conducted by RA Aviation which is not only in aircraft, but also research about electric bikes, hybrid electric plants, and many more.

Nina, the chief of RA Aviation, said, “So, because of existence in an aircraft world doesn’t mean we ignore other things necessary. It means that if Mr. Teguh (the RA Aviation team member) has other knowledge about aircraft, jet engines or anything, Mr. Teguh can implement his knowledge and skill in Turbine Powered Electric Plant (PLTT). Match the logic. I also hope that my friends’ knowledge, here, can be also utilized in aircraft. It’s a collaboration.”
