The 5th JBC Support 1001 Startup Program in Indonesia

BANDUNG, TEL-U – Again, Telkom University (Tel-U) organized large competition at national level organized by the SEARCH Telkom University entitled The 5th Java Business Competition (JBC).

The event opened on Friday 30 September 2016 at the Hall School of Creative Industry (FIK) Tel-U and it will end on Sunday, October 2, 2016 in Bandung Indah Plaza (BIP).

Followed by 133 teams from 38 universities across Indonesia, JBC is an annual event to-5 held by SMEs Search Tel-U, with a total prize of 50 million, in addition, this event also received support from the government of West Java province, so the Grand Champion will earn trophies of West Java governor Ahmad Heryawan.

With a series of four competitions in between the Call for Papers, Entrepreneur Festival, Business Simulation, and Debate Marketing, the event opened with a national seminar with speaker Frances PW Hadiwidjana (Founder, CEO Prelo Indonesia), Roymax Marihot Pandapotan (Marketing City Head of Bandung, Gojek Indonesia), and Farah Meirissa Fhonna (Campus & Community Relations Manager Techinasia) with the theme of Technopreneur Key Success.

Chairman of the committee on 5th JBC M Rynaldi Faisal Ak told us the reason behind the chosen theme and also the chosen three speakers, it was because the audience can understand how the entrepreneurial process is like, from building to run it. “We hope from this seminar the participants can understand the process of an entrepreneur, how to build a start up until its run, and we also provide that provision,” he said.

Aldy explained, the main theme on 5th JBC was “Optimization Young Technopreneurs with Local Wisdom to Face the Global Economic Challenge” in which each branch of the competition will be included materials about local knowledge. “In addition, the theme we take as support government project on 1001 start up in Indonesia, “he said.

On Sunday (2/10) the final took place in BIP, the three categories of competition such as marketing debate, call for papers and business simulations, whereas for entrepreneurs festival will be held an exhibition and presentation.

The final result of the Grand Champion was Universitas Brawijaya (UB), from the debate generated marketing Bisnis Nusantara University (Binus) as the first champion, Tel-U 2nd place, and the University of Indonesia (UI) on 3rd place. On the entrepreneur festival generated University Ciputra on the 1st, the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB) 2nd place, and 3rd place for Jember University.

The Call for Paper competition resulted the first three best paper of UI, the champion 2 of UB and 3rd place of Tel-U. On business simulation contest winner achieved by UB 1 and 2 teams in position 2 dan3 achieved by Tel-U.

Aldy added, the purpose of this event was to show to the entire Indonesia that Tel-U has become a leading university in Indonesia and have a big event like JBC followed by all universities in Indonesia.

“I hope from this event can also produce technopreneur, not just a ceremonial event but the knowledge gained both from seminars or competitions can be implemented to generate technopreneur for Indonesia,” he said. (Purel / aw)
