JMart: MSMEs Marketplace in Jelekong Village Created by Tel-U Students

To boost post-pandemic economic recovery in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs – UMKM) sector, Telkom University students created an innovative product in a form of a marketplace called ‘JMart’ that aimed to assist MSMEs in Jelekong Village. This is a form of Tel-U’s contribution which is in line with the vision towards becoming a Research & Entrepreneurial University.

JMart or Jelekong Mart is a marketplace application created specifically to support arts products from Jelekong Village. This marketplace application is aimed to market Jelekong’s MSME products, such as traditional arts. In addition, there is also information regarding tourism and special cultural events in Jelekong Village. JMart application is available in desktop and mobile versions.

This application was developed as form of Tel-U students’ participation in the Innovilage program, which accommodates a platform for students to conduct social activities within a community to address the issues the community faced.

The JMart team consisted of three students from Diploma of Information Systems namely as Bintang Preciosa S., Dorathea Evelyn Wynnedeta, and Ganesha Aprilyan Phanama. The students were directly supervised by a lecturer for School of Computing (FIF), Suryatiningsih, S.T., M.T.

“The JMart application is created to assist problem solving in Jelekong Village, with around 800 workers have been affected by the pandemic. This is because there has been a drastic decrease in orders of art product. To help increase product marketing, JMart was created. This way, the community can reach a broader range of consumers,” said the Head of Team, Ganesa.

There were several stages in the application development. Brainstorming is the initial step to determine the features that would be created. Next is collecting existing marketplace application project references, designing proposals, and finally, discussions with supervisors.

“After the proposal was accepted in Innovillage TOP 150, we received funding support and immediately proceeded to implement the proposal. We also assessed the situation on the field and developed the application. We hope that Jelekong Village community would be able to market local products more flexibly and effectively, as well as expand their market scope,” stated Ganesa
