Prevent Stunting Through Innovation by Telkom University

Cegah Stunting Melalui Inovasi Karya Telkom University

BANDUNG, Telkom University – Creating outstanding human resources for advanced Indonesia in 2045 must be prepared early. However, based on Riskesdas 2018 data, 18 provinces in Indonesia have a prevalence of 30-40%, which is relatively high, including in West Java, where 29.9% or 2.7 million children under five experience stunting.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), stunting is a developmental disorder in children caused by poor nutrition, repeated infections, and inadequate psychosocial stimulation.

To prevent stunting in Bandung Regency, Telkom University has succeeded in creating an EGCMS (e-Growth Chart Monitoring System) innovation to accelerate the National Strategy for preventing stunting and malnutrition based on Posyandu in the Bandung Regency area.

Telkom University innovations from across scientific fields, namely Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Instrumentation, and Industrial Design, collaborate to produce an appropriate technology product (TTG) in the form of a measuring and monitoring system for the growth and development of infants and toddlers.

The system built by Telkom University has been developed since 2020. This system was initially created to assist posyandu cadres in knowing the growth and development of infants and toddlers during the implementation of Posyandu activities by their core team, namely Husneni Mukhtar, Ph.D., Dien Rahmawati, M.T., and Dr. Eng. Willy Anugrah Cahyadi.

Organized at Telkom University Tuesday (19/7), the head of the program team, Husneni Mukhtar, Ph.D., a lecturer at the School of Electrical Engineering, said that the system promoted by the Telkom University team in the Matching Fund Program (MF) of the Kedai scheme The design for 2021 is named “e-Growth Chart Monitoring System” or EGCMS v.2.0. This system can make it easier for posyandu cadres to measure weight and height (TB and BB) in just one measurement. The plan would automatically provide results for the TB/BB category based on the growth chart for infants and toddlers.

“The implementation of EGCMS v.2.0 in the MF Kedaireka 2021 Program in collaboration with industrial partner PT. Pelita Inspirasi, where this PT already has a track record as a manufacturer of weighing systems for babies and toddlers. A total of 36 villages in Bandung Regency have received this tool, and the counseling is assisted by lecturers from the UNPAD Faculty of Nursing in the community/community health field,” he said.

Husneni further added that this system had been registered with IPR Patents and industrial designs in 2020 and 2021. In the future, this innovation will continue to improve its performance by realizing EGCMS v.3.0, which has IoT-based data management to facilitate use to assist the data collection and monitoring process. from the Health Center or the Health Office later.

“This advanced innovation will be realized through the MF Kedaireka Program in 2022. This time, we collaborated with the research team from the Faculty of Nursing and Food Technology Unpad, while the industrial partner was PT. DycodeX Teknologi Nusantara. We hope that this innovation can contribute to helping government programs to reduce stunting rates efficiently and optimally.”
