Sumedang is an area that becomes the center of Sundanese culture as it owns a variety of arts and traditions. One place that holds many cultural narratives and exhibits its own unique experience for each visitor is a museum. This is certainly one of the reasons why museums are a tourist attraction that has appealed in the eyes of the public. A variety of objects in the museum may also become a source of knowledge, education, and culture development.

To support this, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) programs on the 9th category of Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and the 11th category of Sustainable Cities and Communities, Telkom University students conducted a museum management in the development of the new Prabu Geusan Ulun museum based on inclusive museum concept, led by Jeng Oetari and team.

“The purpose of the digitalization of the museum is due to the minimal amount of information of the culture, such as archives, historical object information, and the suboptimal preservation of cultural heritage sites as well as the desire to involve the community in the attraction developments to motivate people to visit museums.” said Oetari.

The inclusive museum is a more dynamic and open museum that adapts to the changing times. One way is by implementing digital technology to deliver information that the museum carries.

Oetari explained that the optimization of the cultural historical sites is by developing museums using interactive mobile technology. The technology is equipped with a mobile-app based active-learning model system which uses the AR (Augmented Reality) technology and is packed in  Treasure Hunt that is integrated with the objects displayed in the museum.

“AR technology is utilized to display artifact information. There are a total of 10 artifacts in the category of cultural heritage objects, such as swords and keris. Visitors can directly scan the provided barcode and an audiovisual presentation will automatically appear.” continued Oetari.

Other digitalizations done by Oetari and team is the development of the museum’s website by adding various features that could aid the visitors, such as ticket reservation, catalog, and donation.

The digitalization is hoped to be able to help the organizers and the public to access information regarding the Prabu Geusan Ulun museum.
