The Handover of Huawei Base Station Grant to Telkom University Beyond 5.5G Laboratory

On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, Telkom University received a Huawei Base Station 5.5G (BTS 5.5G) grant from Huawei at the meeting room of PUI-PT AICOMS (Center for Science and Technology of Advanced Intelligent Communications Higher Education). The 5.5G BTS grant handover was witnessed by Huawei Technologies APAC Wireless Industry Development and Wireless Development Director Mr. Jasper Li, Huawei Indonesia Wireless Solution Senior Manager, Indra Gani, Head of Beyond 5.5G (B5.5G) Laboratory, Prof. Dr. Eng. Khoirul Anwar, S.T., M.Eng, and other Beyond 5.5G Laboratory lines.

In her remarks, Dr. Rina expressed enthusiasm for the 5.5G BTS handover to open up chances for long-term collaboration.

“We hope that this cooperation will keep going, not only within the scope of cooperation that has been agreed upon but also to produce benefit for the larger community and the world. Congratulations and thank you, Huawei, for working together to assist develop key advancements in new technologies for now, which are expected to have a broader impact in the future,” Dr. Rina remarked.

Huawei’s Director of ICT Strategy & Business, Moh Rosidi, also conveyed the urgency of this cooperation in order to narrow the gap between industry and universities.

“What is being implemented today has been in the works for at least a year and is a milestone in a series of MoUs (Memorandums of Understanding) and PKS (Cooperation Agreements) that Tel-U has previously done with Huawei. This is an effort to bridge the gap between business and colleges, and we will continue to monitor in order to guarantee that the initiative runs well.” Rosidi explained.

Khoirul Anwar also expressed his optimism that this handover will boost network tests and development activities, as well as improve the Beyond 5.5G Laboratory’s contribution to research and technology.

“This 5G Handover Base Station will act as a trigger for the development of 5.5G and 6G, allowing Telkom University to conduct comprehensive experiments, particularly from system access based on Indonesian frequencies. We hope that this B5.5G Lab will serve as a place where we can contribute to science, industry, and the country at both the national and international levels through international patents and, hopefully, ITU and 3GPP international standards.” Khoirul added.

On the occasion of the Handover Base Station 5.5G, Mr. Jasper Li, Director of APAC Wireless Industry Development and Wireless Development Huawei Technologies, stated that this collaborative work is carried out in order to advance together and carry out a continuous evolution, particularly in the development of current industrial needs.
