Telkom University Students Invent the Efficient Potato Peeler

BANDUNG, Telkom University – A team of students participating in the Student Creativity Program (PKM) of the School of Industrial Engineering at Telkom University (FRI Tel-U) has succeeded in making an innovative potato peeler. Through this tool, the potato peeling process will be more hygienic and efficient.

In an experiment conducted by the PKM team together with residents in Rajamandala Village, West Bandung Regency, Monday (9/8), in which the process of peeling potatoes was carried out manually, and compared with machines.

“From this experiment, we found that the duration of peeling 3 kg of potatoes using a machine took 1 minute, while 3 kg of potatoes was done by 3 people, the total average time obtained was 9 minutes.” Said the FRI PKM Student Assistance Lecturer, Rosad Ma’ali Elhadi.

Rosad explained that the initial idea for making this tool was based on a large number of potato chip craftsmen, restaurants, and caterers who had to take time to process potatoes, especially the peeling process.

“The goal is simple, we want to help MSMEs that have businesses made from potato, where through this tool the potato processing process will be more efficient in time, cost-effective, more hygienic and with a large processing capacity, where this tool can process a maximum of 5 kg of potatoes at once. ” Obviously.

The work of the nation’s children will be included in the 2021 PKM event organized by the Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia and prepared in the 2021 National Scientific Week (PIMNAS) program.
