Implementation of the Independent Campus in the Vocational College

BANDUNG, Telkom University – Declaring an independent campus, Telkom University (TelU) provides vocational program organized the first webinar series entitled “Vocational Higher Education Style in the Era of Independent Campus.” It took place live through ZOOM and Telkom University Youtube channel, Saturday (6/13).

The webinar organized by the TelU School of Applied Sciences (FIT) is open to all vocational colleges and industry players as well as students and the public, by presenting the Director-General of Vocational Education at the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikbud RI) Wikan Sakarinto, Ph.D. as Keynote Speech.

In his presentation, Wikan explained how to form a world-class vocational campus style, in starting an independent vocational campus learning the first thing to look at is to have an adaptive and innovative curriculum.

“An adaptive and innovative curriculum is needed, especially now that we will enter New Normal in the middle of industry 4.0, so that distance learning will become a future trend. Therefore the curriculum must be flexible.” He said.

Meeting an industry needs, Wikan added that the thing that must be considered by vocational colleges is to create capable graduates. They will be well absorbed in the industry or become entrepreneurs who can build the nation’s economy.

“Nowadays, what is needed by industry is competence. It is not just a diploma, competency certification is also necessary. Besides, soft skills in communication must also be obtained by vocational college graduates, and if possible whether our graduates can be able to produce applied real product research.” He explained.

This webinar was also as a experience sharing on Vocational Link and Match with Industry by Radhian Krisna Putra (Acting Deputy Dean for Cooperation, Alumni & Strategic Planning at Gajah Mada University).  Also, student sharing on Startup Ecosystems in Vocations by Robbi Hendriyanto (Lecturer Diploma 3 Information System of Startup Division from StartUpHub.id).

At the end of the FIT event will share knowledge about Vocational Learning using Virtual Reality (VR) by 3 TelU FIT lecturers namely Fat’hah Noor Prawita (Lecturer of Application Software Foundation), Yahdi Siradj (Lecturer of Multimedia Engineering Technology), and Rikman Aherliwan Rudawan (Lecturer of Technology Technology) Multimedia Engineering).

Telkom University Chancellor Prof. In his remarks, Adiwijaya said that after Telkom University was declared an independent campus, Tel-U had a good relationship with the industry to jointly realize their shared dreams in printing superior resources for the development of the nation.

“The relationship between industry and academy is an indispensable thing because the problems that arise in the present time are an opportunity for vocational schools to contribute well.” Said Prof. Adiwijaya.

In line with the independent campus, Prof. Adiwijaya added that currently, Telkom University has compiled a curriculum that is closely related to an independent campus.

“Our students will be directed towards entrepreneurship, and they will participate in the internship program. Besides that Telkom University also collaborates with the Ministry of Villages to develop villages through innovations. So that rural people can experience technology. ” He explained.
