Telkom University Host the 2022 UIGM Workshop

BANDUNG, Telkom University – Telkom University had the opportunity to host more than 50 universities from all over Indonesia, to hold a 2022 University of Indonesia Green Metric (UIGM) workshop.

This activity was held online on Friday (23/9). This activity is a collaboration between Telkom University, UIGM, and the Office of the Higher Education Service Institute (LLDIKTI) Region IV West Java and Banten.

Prof. Riri Fitri Sari, Chair of UI GreenMetric, University of Indonesia, said that climate change in the world today has become a common problem. Therefore this activity is a form of joint mitigation to raise public awareness through universities.

“We need to do this mitigation together, through the academic community and students who can spread awareness to the community to care about the surrounding environment. Therefore we want all universities worldwide to be able to contribute through this activity.”

Prof. Riri added that activities like this are not only held in Indonesia but throughout the world. “Because the current climate change problem is a problem for us as humans, it is no longer a problem for a region or a country,” he said.

Dr. M Samsuri, in his speech, hoped that all universities under LLDIKTI IV could understand and study the ranking of UIGM because this concern covers not only the surrounding area but also how universities build SDSs and make environmentally friendly campuses with a sustainable resources-based management system.

“We urge universities under LLDIKTI IV to participate in this activity and understand UIGM to increase mutual understanding of the environment. And we appreciate Telkom University, which is regularly involved in UIGM, and we see that Tel-U’s ranking is increasing, especially at UIGM.”

Rector of Telkom University, Prof. Adiwijaya, in his speech, said that the world is currently facing unprecedented global challenges, such as the trend of increasing population, global warming, overexploitation of natural resources, and energy that depends on oil and water.

“We realize that higher education has an important role in overcoming these challenges. The role of universities is expected to contribute to increasing public awareness through efforts in the fields of education, research, and community service so that the implementation of tri dharma activities can support the government in implementing sustainable development.” Obviously.

Prof. Adiwjaya said that, in general, UIGM uses the concept of campus sustainability, which has three components: environmental, economic, and social. “I hope we can focus on university efforts to continue sustainability programs and policies and prepare for continued learning and research after the COVID-19 pandemic.”
